Peace is possible! Each month you have an opportunity to help Witness for Peace create a better world by building the community of people across the U.S. working for justice in the Americas. For each monthly action, we will have resource kits available. These resource kits include including information on how to host an event, film lists, and discussion questions, educational and lobby resources and much more! April 16-21

Explore the Roots of Migration--Host an Educational House Party and Solidarity Dinner.  Invite friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors over for a house party to learn about the roots of migration. The party is a place to socialize, build community, learn, and raise much-needed funds for Witness for Peace. Serve up a solidarity dinner of rice, beans, corn and fruit; discuss questions surrounding the current public debate on immigration and share resources with your community.

 

May 20-21:

Days of Prayer and Action for Colombia

Stand in solidarity with the people of Colombia calling for peace and justice. Sunday, May 20: People of Faith stand in solidarity with the churches of Colombia by organizing a special day of prayer for Colombia in your faith community. Monday, May 21: Take action to stop harmful U.S. foreign policy towards Colombia by visiting your member of Congress, hosting a community event or organizing a vigil.  More at peaceincolombia.org.

 

June 11-15

Stop Fast Track Trade Legislation!

Fast Track is the legislation that gives the president the authority to negotiate free trade agreements without input from congress, state legislatures and concerned citizens. Fast Track legislation comes up for renewal in July. In the month of June we are calling on you to take action to stop Fast Track from being renewed and to call for a more just trade model.

 

July 15-21

Take Action for Fair Trade!

It’s the middle of summer, the weather is warm and people are spending more and more time outside. It’s the perfect time of year to get out and promote fair trade through fun, outdoor and interactive games such as global justice red rover or tabling at your local farmers market. August All Month Long

Stop U.S. Meddling in Venezuela Reach Out to you Local Media. The U.S. Government and many national media outlets have published misleading information about Venezuela. Take some time to reach out to your local media to stop the misinformation and to educate your community by writing an letter to the editor, op-ed, guest column, or speak on your local community radio station.  

 

September 9-15

Show a film to Raise Awareness about the School of the Americas. Organize a screening about the School of the Americas and start organizing in your community for the 2007 Vigil to Close the SOA at the gates of Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia. For film list and films contact Witness for Peace.

 

October all Month long

Media Outreach to Close the SOA! In October as we all prepare for the vigil to close the School of the Americas take the time to do some media outreach. Getting our voices in the media helps to elevate our issue in the public consciousness as well as helping us in our outreach efforts.

 

November 15-17

Close the School of the Americas! On November 16-17 tens of thousands of activists from throughout the hemisphere will be outside the gates of Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia calling for the closing of the School of the Americas.  Join Witness for Peace at the Vigil! Link up with a group of Witness for Peace activists in your region heading to the vigil. If you are not able to travel to Georgia, organize or participate in a local or regional event.

 

December 10

Take Action for Immigrant Rights on International Human Rights Day! International Human Rights day is celebrated by people around the world. In the United States use this years International Human Rights Day to stand up for the human rights of immigrants.
