Kathleen Nygard
Colombia International Team Member

A native of Minnesota, Kath joined Witness for Peace in March of 2006. She has a BA in Anthropology and Global Studies from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Kath started her Latin America experience in Mexico (1999) and in 2000 in South America where she studied Social Movements and grassroots organizing in Ecuador and then traveled in other South American countries.

She joins the Witness team after volunteering for 3 years with Peace Brigades International in Colombia. She spent the first 2 years in the northeast region of Urabá accompanying threatened human rights defenders and the communities of peace and civil resistance.  Upon leaving the tropics she spent one year in Bogotá where she accompanied human rights defenders in the capital and a variety of regions. She also met the International Team and got to know the work that Witness was doing in Colombia.

Kath has been motivated to continue her work in Colombia by the strength and beauty of the Colombian people and a dedication to social justice and human rights issues.
