October 2010 Newsletter: Southeast Update
Witness for Peace Southeast will hold its retreat October 8 & 9th out at Camp New Hope. The retreat will focus on the roots of migration and immigration reform. Friday night will feature Daira Quinonez from the Afro Colombian displaced community. Daira is a dynamic leader as well as a storyteller and a singer. Saturday morning will begin with Lisa Haugaard from the Latin American Working Group in Washington, D.C. She will focus on U.S. Policy in Colombia and Mexico. All are invited.
Fall Speakers Tour
From October 3-26th, Dairia Quinonez will tour the Southeast Region. She will begin in Richmond, VA, Blacksburg and Lynchburg and then visit Chapel Hill, NC, Warren Wilson College near Asheville, Winston-Salem, Elon University, Durham and Raleigh. She will begin her Kentucky tour in Louisville, and visit Lexington, Berea and Centre College in Danville.
Join a Witness for Peace Delegation to Colombia January 14-24th, 2011. The theme is "U.S. Military Assistance and Human Rights." Learn about Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities' struggle for territory, culture and environment. Meet with a wide range of Colombians including community leaders, displaced persons, and human rights defenders.
