Walker Grooms, National Grassroots Organizer
Walker, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, joined Witness for Peace in May 2012. Prior to that, Walker studied Philosophy and Latin American Studies at Birmingham-Southern College, worked at Impact Alabama, and traveled and interned throughout Latin America. In 2011, he completed a Master's degree in Conflict Resolution at Georgetown University, focusing primarily on the Colombian internal armed conflict, the post-conflict situations in other Latin American countries, and Indigenous social movements in the region. While at Georgetown, he was a primary student organizer of a human rights-focused coalition that successfully pressured the university's administration to reverse an alarming professorial hiring decision.
