An Open Letter to David Brooks on Haiti
Dr. Tom Driver, Professor Emeritus of Theology and Culture at
Union Theological Seminary and emeritus member of the Witness for Peace Mid-Atlantic Steering Committee, responded to New York Times Columnist David Brooks' January opinion piece on Haiti, entitled "The Underlying Tragedy."
In the open letter, Driver and co-author Carl Lindskoog, a doctoral candidate in history at the CUNY Graduate Center, rebuke Brooks for the blatant cultural imperialism infused in his column and the many historical inaccuracies used to bolster it.
