Delegations to Colombia

In solidarity with our Colombian partners, Witness for Peace organizes delegations for people to travel to Colombia and see first-hand the impacts of U.S. policies. They meet with a wide spectrum of experts, representatives from NGOs, campesinos, business leaders and government officials.

A typical delegation to Colombia will:

  • Meet with a wide range of experts and activists, including leaders in the peace movement and the business community, to hear their analysis of U.S. policy in Colombia
  • Learn about the economic roots of Colombia's conflict
  • Hear first-hand accounts of the impact of aerial spraying
  • Hear testimonies from displaced people and others directly affected by the conflict
  • Travel to areas outside of Bogotá to see the impact of U.S. military assistance
  • Talk to union organizers about the violence they face
  • Meet with U.S. Embassy and Colombian government and military officials
  • Learn grassroots legislative and media strategies to work for change in the U.S.
  • Get to know the wonderful Colombian culture – the food, language, music

Safety of Delegations:

The safety of our delegates is our number one priority. Since taking our first Colombia delegation in January 2001, hundreds of people have safely traveled with us to this troubled yet spectacular South American country. Nevertheless, all participants must be aware that travel to this country struggling for peace amidst conflict has some inherent risks. For this reason, we require all delegates to follow a strict security protocol at all times while in Colombia. For more information on safety issues, contact the WFP National Office.
