SOLIDARIDAD: Hundreds Gather in Nicaragua to demand the closing of the School of the Americas

On November 15, hundreds of Nicaraguans and internationals gathered for a walk for peace and to close the School of the Americas. Protesters marched symbolically through the parks of El Salvador, Colombia, and Mexico, arriving at the gates of the U.S. Embassy where they left crosses and coffins to commemorate those who have died atthe hands of U.S. military and economic violence.

In the poorest country in the Hemisphere, that has suffered at the hands of U.S. military and economic policy, the protesters demanded justice, and an end to U.S. intervention. The protester's declaration stated, "Nicaragua needs help to end poverty. Our children are dying of hunger. We want to produce food to survive. We don’t want weapons. We don’t want our land to be used for miltary operations or to be used to invade neighboring countries. This type of "help" brings us closer to a war that we want nothing to do with."
