New England/Upper Midwest Tour, April 11-25, 2008
Featuring the Rev. Romualdo F.W. Mayrén Peláez ("Padre Uvi")

Padre Uvi has been a tireless defender of human rights in Mexico's largely indigenous southern state of Oaxaca. As Coordinator for the Peace and Justice Commission of Mexico's Oaxaca archdiocese, Padre Uvi was key in mediation talks during the social unrest of 2006-07. A founder of BARCA Human Rights Center in Oaxaca, he continues to speak and work against abuses toward poor and marginalized citizens and to support those suffering the effects of economic and military violence and forced migration from their homes.

Padre Uvi will speak about the root causes of migration in the framework of human economic rights, and will address the role of U.S. economic and military policies in the social unrest and increasing migration in southern Mexico.
