According to Peace Brigades International, 40% of Colombia’s territory has been licensed to, or is being solicited by, multinationals in order to develop mining and crude oil extractive projects. In the northeastern provinces of La Guajira and Cesar, two of the countries’ largest multinationals, Cerrejón and Drummond, are mining some of the world’s purest coal.

Throughout their thirty-year presence in the country, there has been negligible regulation of their activity and limited independent study of their impact on public health or the environment. The communities affected by these multinationals are requesting the technical and investigative support of qualified professionals to help them understand and identify the impacts they have experienced for decades.

Join Witness for Peace in designing a delegation to meet community needs.

*Non-professionals who want to learn about the impact of mining are also welcome to apply!
